When the water level’s are low the Zambia side of falls allows the visit to Devil’s pool, the infinity pool at edge of the falls.
(Date of Visit – 21 December, 2017)
The visit to Devil’s pool is among our best trips. The memories of visiting the unlimited infinity pool, thrill of life at edge from one of the largest water falls will be everlasting.
Victoria falls is on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Majority of the falls is on the Zimbabwe side. When the water level’s are low the Zambia side of falls allows the visit to Devil’s pool, the infinity pool at edge of the falls. The only company having legal license for taking tourist to Devil’s pool is Tongabezi. The company is very professional and they maintain a 100% safety track record. We booked our trip to Devil’s Pool for 21 Dec, 2017. Usually the water level starts raising during this time and Devil’s pool get closed. The next alternative possible visit is a pool known as Angel’s Armchair.
We stayed at Protea Hotel by Marriott Livingstone which we booked with Marriott Points. The hotel was category 1 Marriott and we booked it using 7500 points which was a great deal. Usually points booking of Marriott is room only but this hotel offered complementary breakfast for all guests.
Devil’s pool is in Livingstone island named after David Livingstone, who is believed to have been the first European to view Victoria Falls .On our day of visit we reached Royal Livingstone Hotel, at Livingstone, Zambia. From the hotel we took a quick 5 mins boat ride to the Livingstone island. Each tour allows maximum 8 people. The walk across the Livingstone island was scenic with view points of complete Victoria falls. It was raining and initially we were informed non-swimmers can’t visit as water levels are high. We were still willing to visit and finally the guide mentioned he will try to take us to Devil’s pool. In a group of 8 we entered the waters, except two of us all others were swimmers. We entered the water holding hands of each other. The guide mentioned one at a time, we hold his shoulder tightly and he will swim near the Devil’s pool. Finally we reached the Devil’s pool. We followed the instructions of guide and entered the Devil’s pool. There were fishes biting our toes. The experience to witness water fall from the edge was worth every effort we made to reach the place.
