Afghanistan was in a war zone during the time we visited. The Indian embassy in Kabul issued a travel advisory for Indians to avoid travel to the country. Taliban had increased the attacks in Kabul and majority flights to Kabul were suspended. We decided to initiate our travel plans with visa, flight, hotels and explore a secure way to visit.
It is mandatory for an Indian to visit the Afghanistan Embassy for visa interview. We explained our reason for travel was our passion to visit all 198 countries together and we got the tourist visa approved. Air India operates in the Delhi-Kabul sector, it required 44280 miles and Rs 4420/ as taxes for 2 round trip tickets. We transferred miles from SBI Air India credit card to Air India frequent flyer account and booked the flights. For stay we booked a safe and secure hotel Park Star.
For the hotel stay I did a lot of research and shortlisted the hotels with high level of security. The Park Star hotel has 8 levels of security with 3 gates of security check point outside and 5 steel gates inside the hotel. It had armed guards outside and on the terrace 24*7. The hotel rooms were modern with all required facilities. They offered full day Tea/Coffee and we opted for the buffet dinner option also. There were 3 conferences going during our stay so the hotel had a lot of people inside. We were inside the hotel during our 1 day stay as for security reasons travelling outside was not advised. They had an option of food from local restaurants which a delivery person would deliver at hotel but we opted to have all meals at hotel restaurant.
