An important functionality of Loyalty Points is those who collect them usually don’t have time to explore the benefits. The high net-worth individuals who are frequent business class travellers, staying at 5 Star suites and high credit card spending usually have limited time to optimise the Airline/Hotel/Credit Card points.
We can consider majority of airlines in 4 Groups – Star Alliance, Sky Team, One World and Individual Airlines like Emirates and Etihad
As per our usage we need need to identify the right Airlines in which we can have our frequent flyer account. In One World British Airways allows clubbing of 6 Family members staying in same address, Air India in Star Alliance allows family pool, Saudi Airlines in Sky Team allows clubbing Family member points and Individual Airlines like Etihad allows to pool 9 Family member accounts.
Like Airline the major Hotels are also a part of chain. Hyatt as a consortium has brands like Park Hyatt, Hyatt Regency and partnerships with hotel chains like Small Luxury Hotels of the World. This has further categories from 1-8, as per points required to redeem. Value of points can be vary from Rs 0.5/ reward point to Rs 5-7/ reward point depending upon the hotel and room category. Using Hyatt Points for a suite room in Kathmandu can generate value of Rs 5/ reward point and for diplomatic suite at Hyatt Tashkent will generate value Rs 7/reward point.
Credit Card Points
We need to select the credit card as per our expenditure pattern and preferred loyalty points type. For example HDFC Dinners Black and HDFC Infinia credit card provide unlimited worldwide lounge access and 10X rewards on booking with preferred partners. When we book a flight ticket with Rs 45,000 from smart buy portal we get 33% cash back with Rs 15000 value of reward points. Axis Bank Miles and More credit card gives 15000 Lufthansa miles as joining bonus. We can use these points for an Ethiopian Airways one way flight from India to any African destination like Ghana, Comoros etc which are usually expensive destinations.
